MODELING

I always need models. It doesn't matter who you are or what you look like. Everyone is art. If you're interested in giving it a try and are within the Kansas City area, send me an email and we can make arrangements to meet and discuss a shoot. This page answers some general questions about what it would be like, but feel free to email me if you have specific questions.

MODEL CONSENT AND RELEASE FORM
When you sign a Model Consent and Release Form, you consent to the photo shoot under the terms discussed and award to the photographer the rights to the photos. A signed consent form is usually required for photographers to exhibit, sell, or publish photos because it assures galleries, buyers, and publishers that you will not sue them for possessing photos of you. I ask all models to sign a consent form prior to the shoot.

HOW WILL I BE PAID?
I almost always compensate models by giving them 8 x 10 prints from the shoot. The number of prints is determined by the time and intensity of the shoot. If cash is the only acceptible compensation for you, I will consider it. Because I do not profit financially from my photography, this will occur only in very special circumstances. I have a standard rate, and I pay more for full nudes than for partial nudes or fully clothed sessions.

If you are considering a career in modeling or acting, I can help you generate a portfolio, with a few shots you want to do, in exchange for a photo session of my own design. I will give you a few prints or digital copies of the entire session.

WHO CAN MODEL?
I welcome and encourage all people to model. I can use anyone, regardless of appearance, because the photos are very much about portraying the individual. I can work with any number of models at one time, so feel free to invite other people you would like to model with. The only stipulation is that you must be within a couple hours of the Kansas City area.

WHERE WOULD WE SHOOT?
I prefer to photograph models in their own environments. This helps put the model at ease, opens up prop and wardrobe options, and contributes to the content of the photos by providing more information about the person being depicted.

DO I HAVE TO BE NUDE?
This is your decision, and we can discuss your preference before the shoot. The human figure contributes heavily to both the form and the content of my work, but I will only include in the photo what you are comfortable showing, including the face if you wish to be anonymous.

WHAT ARE THE SESSIONS LIKE?
I prefer more candid, relaxed, realistic physical expressions from my models, so you will be able to relax and be yourself. I work hard to keep my models comfortable and to give them a positive experience, for their sake and that of the photos. I encourage constant conversation during a shoot, which makes the situation feel more natural. I am very open-minded and receptive to my models' feelings, level of comfort, and state of mind.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN WITH THE PHOTOS OF ME?
I shoot images for exhibition and publication and for my web page and portfolio. I often show images to friends and peers for feedback. If you do not want your images published on the web or shown to others, I will accept that stipulation, but I must be free to exhibit or publish the photos or they will be of no use to me or anyone else.

HOW DO I SIGN UP?
Just send me an email and we will go from there. If I don't already know you, we can meet in advance to discuss a shoot.
